[ Prototype Screenshots ] Windows Mobile + xBox = Live Anywhere ??

We have talked about xBox and Windows Mobile the idea was announced as early as 2006 ( at E3 if I am not wrong ). The idea was to extend the Xbox Live concept to Windows Mobile and even Java-enabled phones.

They showed some early screenshots / demo of the project back in 2006 ( It was then called Live Anywhere ). The idea was Whether you’re at your PC or on the move with a mobile, you would be able to track your gamer tag, message friends, purchase content for that device or set it to download to another device, and compare rankings with your buddies on various gaming titles. This was exciting in 2006 but now since Microsoft dropped the ball on that there are some 3rd party Apps on Windows Mobile that tries to bring these features ( mind you they are not as feature rich as what Live Anywhere could have been ) . They are Mobile GamerTag and WM Live 0.8 beta

But with the buzz around the new Job posting looking to Integrate xBox and WM I hope it is some thing which allows uses to challenge other WM users for online battle in some new line of WM7 games that integrates multiplayer gameplay with friends ( kind of like what Eliminate Pro does for the iPhone with push notifications , imagine something like HALO on the WM7 devices .. that would be so cool )

Windows Mobile 7 and Custom UI like HTC Sense

windows mobile 7

windows mobile 7

There was a rumor floating around that custom UI like the one from HTC will not be present in the upcoming WM7. The rumor came from msmobiles.com but was quickly shot down by mobiletechworld.com who found an interesting bit of info from xda-developers.

if HomeMachineStatus.WM7Device.Value then
IsWindowsMobile7Device = true
PredefineItem = 1
HomeItemCollection = HomeManager:GetHomeCollection(1)
else
IsWindowsMobile7Device = false
PredefineItem = 0
HomeItemCollection = HomeManager:GetHomeCollection()
end

It looks like if the device is WM7 then HTC wants to show a specific UI which may be a completely new HTC UI. What do you guys think will HTC need to cover up the WM7 Home Screen or will Microsoft put out some great new UI to revive the Windows Phone brand. Which has been going downhill ever since the iPhone and Android devices started going mainstream.

Review of the Samsung Omnia II

OmniaII

OmniaII

Are you a fan of the Samsung Omnia II, are you planning to get one soon then you might want to check out the review by mobilitysite.com. They have done a detailed software and hardware review.

Their Verdict :

The Samsung Omnia II is a strong, light-weight handset with a fabulous AMOLED display that did not deplete battery life as fast as expected and a powerful 5-megapixel camera with LED flash. Applications like Smart Reader, Smart Memo, Swype, and FM Radio work flawlessly and should be included on more smartphones!

A few downsides to this device are the apparent lag to load widgets when switching from panel-to-panel, the absence of the ability to list new programs on the Main Menu while in TouchWiz mode, and the inability to switch to landscape mode in most programs. Plus, the abundance of static shortcuts and the lack of live-updating widgets was surprising. Samsung should create more actual widgets, like Smart Memo, that reflect live activity right on the widget, rather than a static website shortcuts. Live-updating MySpace, Facebook, or Twitter widgets would have been better ideas.
